We know! It's already the middle of July! Summer weather has been taking its time around Tacoma, but we're going to usher it in with our first-ever rooftop show. Join us to mountain-gaze and listen to the honeyed tones of Widowspeak, Sporty Lee, and Ben Von Wildenhaus (with Proffesional Band and featuring Amanda Bloom) on Friday, July 22nd. Tickets are $5 (practically free for a Friday). Rooftop opens at 7pm; enter from the alley and bring a chair, if you're so inclined.
On the 31st we will host the fourth event in our Speak/Listen series, where we come together to eat, drink, and discuss topics pertinent to the creative community in Tacoma. Our first three discussions centered around our local and regional music scene. This month, the focus shifts to visual artists (including filmmakers and photographers). Collectively, we will answer the questions: What does it mean to participate in an “arts community” in Tacoma? What components are necessary to foster a vibrant working environment for artists? How has site-specific art versus art displayed in a gallery or business benefitted the artist and/or the community? In what ways do we measure success as artists? Through cultural change? Political change? Financial stability?
Please come ready to contribute to the discussion with your answers, tips, anecdotes, and more questions. Drinks at 7, talk begins promptly at 7:15. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be provided, and feel free to bring anything else that sounds good.
Hope to see you on the roof, in the building, or both!
